Where is your joy? Maybe it's buried under piles of laundry. The dog ate it.

Too often it's painted on when you leave the house. Fake it 'til you make it, right?

What is joy? What is it really?

I used to think joy was an "abiding sense of happiness" amid life's trials and tribulations. It's a viewing life through "rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice" glasses. Post-Covid Me sees how trite those glasses are. Maybe joy peace mixed with a dash of happiness and a tablespoon of contentment, then topped with a dollop of belly-aching laughter. Maybe joy is ice cream. Maybe joy is too nebulous to put into words, but we know it when we feel it. Maybe.

As I've been reading through Britt Frank's The Science of Stuck, I find joy in a book. I also find joy in listening to the latest We Can Do Hard Things podcast, in playing a game of Liverpool Rummy with my parents and cousins, and in helping my daughter replace her windshield wipers.

Joy finds me when I learn new things,

meet new people, and have new adventures.
